Officials and dignitaries from Valencia College, the University of Central Florida, and several branches of Osceola County government were on hand on April 11 for the dedication of Valencia College’s Building 4 on the Osceola campus.

Valencia-Osceola Campus President Kathleen Plinske welcomed guests, including past and present members of the college’s Board of Trustees, to the event.

Calling it “somewhat disturbing,” Kissimmee Developmental Services officials introduced an ordinance to the City Commission on Tuesday that would ban the public slaughter of animals in a residential area.

St. Cloud High weightifter Austin Ocasio won the Class 2A 238-pound state championship Friday at the Kissimmee Civic Center with a total lift of 730 pounds.

Ocasio bench pressed 430 pounds and clean and jerked 300 to earn the gold medal. Ocasio lifted 80 pounds more than he did last year, when he placed third.
