The Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design on March 27 found probable cause to file an administrative complaint against Corporate Construction, a company run by Chad M. Hitchcock and which operates from 2307 Boggy Creek Road, Suite 3, Kissimmee.
According to the board, neither Corporate Construction nor Hitchcock are licensed to practice architecture in Florida or provide architectural services for commercial projects. In addition, the board stated that Hitchcock is offering services through a corporation without a certificate of authorization.
The board is seeking to impose a $10,000 fine on the company and Hitchcock plus costs associated with its regulatory action.
The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation lists the company as a general contractor.
Inspection to close navigation lock
The South Florida Water Management District is planning to refurbish the S-65 navigation lock on the Kissimmee River and will close the facility through May 24 for related inspection work.
During the closure, boaters will not be able to pass through the lock. Information collected during the inspection will identify specific aspects of the lock that need to be repaired or replaced, maximizing the benefit of the refurbishment while minimizing the cost to taxpayers.
The navigation lock is at State Road 60, where water from Lake Kissimmee enters the Kissimmee River.
Three apply for
utility board
Three residents have submitted applications to fill a vacancy on the Kissimmee Utility Authority board of directors.
The deadline for completed applications was May 1.
The five-year term of director Jim Kasper expires Sept. 30, leaving the open seat. Kasper is eligible for renomination.
The other two applicants are: Beulah Farquharson, a business owner specializing in real estate, taxes and pre-owned car sales; and Kathleen Thacker, a retired school psychologist from Orange County Public Schools.
The KUA board will interview applicants at a special meeting at 4 p.m. May 13. The board will then select one applicant whose name will go before the Kissimmee City Commission May 19 for final confirmation before being sworn into office in October.
Appointed to
national council
Kissimmee Utility Authority vice chairman Nancy Gemskie has been appointed by the American Public Power Association to a three-year term on the association’s Policy Makers Council.
The council assists the association in promoting federal legislation that is important to public power systems like KUA while opposing harmful legislation. It also provides advice on other issues of importance to the association. Members of the council meet a minimum of twice a year, and participate in meetings with elected representatives and congressional staff for the purposes of supporting the association’s national legislative agenda.
The council is comprised of 40 members who serve on either utility boards or are elected officials in public power communities throughout the United States. Gemskie will represent the Atlantic Region, which includes Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Delaware.
Gemskie joined the KUA board in October 2000 and has served as director, assistant secretary, secretary, vice chairman and chairman. She currently chairs the Florida Municipal Power Agency’s Policy Makers Liaisons Committee, and she serves on the Legislative and Resolutions Committee for the Florida Municipal Electric Association.
