Kissimmee student awarded Fullbright assistantship

Osceola County School for the Arts graduate Shayla Alamino was recently awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship.

Alamino, of Kissimmee, is a Rollins College student who will joins more than 1,600 U.S. citizens who will travel abroad for the 2012-13 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.

Alamino, who will be traveling to Thailand, said she viewed the scholarship as an opportunity to immerse herself in an entirely new culture while challenging her train of critical and imaginative skills through teaching.

Dyer graduates

Kevin Dyer, of Kissimmee, graduated from Concordia University in Portland, Ore. at its commencement ceremony on May 5.

Dyer received a master of education in educational leadership.

Concordia University is a private, Christian, liberal arts university located in northeast Portland.

Flagler College grads

The following local students were awarded bachelor’s degrees from Flagler College in St. Augustine:

Lauren Benetti, of Celebration, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree.

Caitlin Byerly, of Poinciana, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree.

Emma Stephens, of Celebration, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree.

More than 386 Flagler students participated in the commencement ceremony on April 21.
