A transient was charged with attempted armed robbery Wednesday after trying to take money from a local home improvement store.

Osceola County Sheriff's deputies responded to Lowe's at 4420 Pleasant Hill Road in Kissimmee. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with two cashiers who said a black male, identified as Milton Jerome Hodges, 20, and listed as a transient, approached them separately and demanded money from the cash register.

One cashier told deputies the suspect held what appeared to be silver scissors against his neck and was choking him, Sheriff’s Office reports said. That cashier was able to break free and attempt to get help as Hodges went to another cashier and demanded she open the register. Three witnesses chased the suspect out of the store and saw him cross Pleasant Hill Road. The suspect then attempted to carjack a truck. But when that was unsuccessful, he jumped the wall into the Cypress Cove community. Prior to being apprehended by deputies, the suspect stole a golf cart at knifepoint from a resident, reports said. None of the victims were injured during the incident.

Hodges, was taken into custody without incident and charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery, three counts of attempted battery and one count of burglary. He was booked into the Osceola County Jail.
