Local law enforcement motor units win at Capital City Challenge PDF Print E-mail

Competition Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies and Kissimmee Police Department officers won awards at the Capital City Challenge held recently in Tallahassee.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Motors Unit won 13 awards, while two Kissimmee motorcycle officers won two.

Nine agencies participated in the Capital City Challenge, a law enforcement motorcycle-training seminar designed to improve officer safety and enhance each riders’ skills in a friendly yet highly competitive environment.

In addition, the event benefits Special Olympics Florida and the Kids 1st Fund.

The Sheriff’s Office results were as follows:

Sgt. Danny Abrahamson: first place novice division

Deputy Kevin Brown: second place novice division

Deputy Will Englert: first place intermediate division, third place tether ride and fifth place challenge ride

Deputy Tommy Forehand: third place intermediate division

Deputy Mark Hodge: first place challenge ride, second place expert division, third place slow ride, third place tether ride and third place overall

Deputy Paul Spears: fourth place novice division

“The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is proud of the Motors Unit accomplishments at the Capital City Challenge. Their training, dedication and teamwork were the instruments of their success,” Sheriff Bob Hansell said in a press release.

The Kissimmee police officers were: Officer Justin Patterson:  first-place novice electra glide division

Officer Sam Howard:  second-place novice electra glide division

“This is a great accomplishment for Officer Patterson and Officer Howard and it demonstrates their commitment to training and dedication to duty,” said Chief Fran Iwanski said.
