Victim hospitalized in Kissimmee house fire

A person was hospitalized Monday after a fire broke out in a Kissimmee home Monday.

The Kissimmee Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2464 Winchester Blvd. just after 5 p.m.
The crews that arrived first on the scene reported black smoke coming from the structure. The initial calls indicated that the fire was cooking-related. Firefighters were able to enter the house to extinguish the fire and later determined the flames originated from the refrigerator.
“Although this house fire was not cooking-related as originally reported, we ask that all our residents remain vigilant to never leave the stove or cooking materials unattended,” said Kissimmee Fire Chief Robert King.
The kitchen is the most common area for house fires to originate and cooking fires remain the leading cause of fire-related injury and financial loss nationwide, and Kissimmee is no acceptation according to a fire department press release.
Firefighters transported one adult to Osceola Regional Medical Center. The victim was treated and released the same evening.
The Red Cross is providing assistance to the homeowners. Meantime, the state fire marshal is conducting an investigation.
Firefighters extinguish fire at townhouse
Four Kissimmee townhouses were damaged on May 16 after catching fire.
The Kissimmee Fire Department responded to a townhouse fire at 1220 Las Fuentes Drive.
The call came in at just before 3 a.m. on May 16. The first units on the scene observed heavy fire and smoke coming from the upper floors of the four-unit building. No one was home at the time and none of the firefighters were injured. However, all four townhouse units were damaged.
“Thanks to our firefighters working so quickly, they were able to minimize the damage to the surrounding units,” said Deputy Fire Chief Jeremy F. Donovan.
The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
