Here we go again! After taking a break for a few years, here I am, back at it.  I’ll try to keep you informed about what’s going on as far as fishing goes.
I’m sure that most of you know Lake Toho is low right now.  I looked this week and the water level was 51.8 feet above sea level.  Normal summer pool is 52 feet.  For you who haven’t been on the lake lately, there are a few places you want to avoid.
The cut that goes from the boat basin toward Shingle Creek is very low.  I’d suggest that you take the long way around Little Grassy.  Also, there is very shallow water out from the mouth of Shingle Creek.  There are poles that mark the shallow water. I looked at it Wednesday and I would guess that it is only a foot deep.  That’s shallow enough to ground most boats.
Pan fishing has been pretty good lately.  Bluegills and shell crackers are hitting off the dike by the boat basin.  Worms and crickets should get you enough for a tasty meal.  I haven’t heard much about spec fishing, but I’ve seen a few boats fishing the deeper water on the east side of Makinson Island and around marker 26.  Most are drifting using minnows.
The past week or so, bass fishing has been on the slow side.  I’ve had some luck fishing around topped-out hydrilla, way off shore.  I’ve been catching them on a Carolina rig and a 10-inch Junebug worm.  If you’re fishing the grass lines, try a speed worm or a Senko-type bait.  You’ll have to cover a lot of water, but still fish slow.  When you get a couple of bites, fish that area for a while.  There are usually a few bunched up together.
If any of you catch a fish that you’re proud of, send us the information and we’ll try to get it in the next column.
