Lisa D’Cato
Poinciana

Writer It is said by many that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Faith-based and nonprofit organization leaders may want to fuel their mind and body with Poinciana: Progress and Pancakes.

Sponsored by Osceola County Community Vision, this event will be Tuesday, June 26, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Living Water Fellowship Church, 4101 Pleasant Hill Road. If your organization serves the Poinciana area, join Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington for a pancake breakfast and a discussion of issues and needs of the Poinciana community. An explanation of services provided by faith-based and nonprofit organizations will be given.

This session begins at 8 a.m. with registration, followed by a pancake breakfast at 8:15 a.m. Arrington and Debbie Clements of Progress Energy. At 9:15 a.m., there will be a current realities assessment followed by a resource inventory discussion. Arrington will give closing remarks at 10:50 a.m.

Community Vision will facilitate this discussion. Community Vision’s mission statement is “to bring people and resources together to achieve the community’s vision.” Established in 1995, Community Vision works on connecting individuals with organizations to move together towards a common goal.

Identifying resources is very important to a community. Many residents in Poinciana were not aware until recently that St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church has a food pantry available on Pleasant Hill Road. This is available to assist any resident, regardless of whether or not they are parishioners. There are other resources such as this one. Poinciana Progress and Pancakes will shed a light on these organizations.

Faith-based and nonprofit groups, this breakfast will help you meet, learn and share your commitment to Poinciana.

Poinciana Predators Youth Cheerleading will hold a cheerleading stunt camp for children ages 4 to 15.

The Poinciana Predators Youth Football and Cheerleading are holding registration as well for youth ages 4 to 14. The fee is $75 for football players and $140 for cheerleaders. For more information, go to www.poincianapredators.com.

Save the date! The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) will hold an Independence Day celebration on Tuesday, July 3, at 11 a.m., in front of the APV Administration Building, 401 Walnut St.

Distinguished World War II, Korean, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom veterans will be on hand to mark this special day. A light lunch will be served.

APV chooses to celebrate this “day before” because the youth of the community will be able to participate through their attendance. The summer camp at the Poinciana Community Center and the Poinciana Family Y camp are in progress, so the children will be able to join in this recognition.

This event is open to the public.
