The Kissimmee Public Information Office has produced a free hurricane guide designed to help residents to weather the storm. The city is encouraging the public to get ready and be prepared for hurricane season, which ends on Nov. 30.

The hurricane guides are available in the first floor lobby of Kissimmee City Hall, located at 101 N. Church St. in downtown Kissimmee. The booklets also will be available at the Kissimmee Civic Center, Chambers Park, Oak Street Park and the Kissimmee Police Department.

“Unless you’ve experienced a hurricane or severe storm—especially if you were not prepared, you’ll never know what it’s like to have your life turned upside down. This hurricane guide will provide details on how our residents can get prepared,” said City Manager Mike Steigerwald.

The hurricane guide navigates residents through the planning and preparation stages, and lists the various ways to stay informed with the latest local news. This guide also maps out what should be done before, during and after the storm. Whether residents plan to evacuate or seek shelter in their home, the guide explains what each of the city departments needs the public to do.

The city works diligently to provide up-to-date information as a hurricane develops. The warnings issued by weather experts will be announced in time for residents to get prepared and secure their property. As the ocean waters get warmer and tropical weather systems start to form, it’s important to monitor the severe weather timelines.
