Sheriff’s Department wrote 130 citations and made 26 arrests late Saturday and into early Sunday at a Safety and DUI Sobriety Checkpoint, conducted from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on the first night of the extended Fourth of July holiday driving period.

Of the arrests, seven were for driving under the influence, and the other arrests were for outstanding warrants, traffic and drug charges. Deputies also issued 93 written warnings to the 1,072 cars that passed through the checkpoint, conducted in accordance with guidelines set out by Florida Statutes. The 1,724 motorists who approached the checkpoint saw informational signs advising them that a sobriety checkpoint was ahead. Once diverted into the checkpoint lane, deputies explained the purpose of the checkpoint and checked their driver’s license.

Suspects arrested in shooting death

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged two Kissimmee men with the murder of a man who was found dead outside of a local bar June 15.

Late Friday night, Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Edwin Luis Isales Falu, 33, of 1408 Bass Slough Circle, and Brayann Edwals Escobar De Jesus, of 66 Silver Oak Circle, and charged them with murder for their involvement in a homicide that occurred at the La Cantina Bar, at 2654 N. Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee.

During the investigation, detectives identified De Jesus and Falu, who were patrons at the bar along with the victim, Humberto Escudero-Capoeuila, 43. Escudero-Capoeuila was shot outside the bar prior to the suspects leaving the scene in a vehicle. The Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the victim died from gunshot wounds.

On June 15 at approximately 2:15 a.m., deputies responded to La Cantina. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Escudero-Capoeuila lying in the parking lot. Deputies spoke with several witnesses from the bar who indicated they heard gun shots and came outside.

Based on the evidence at the scene and information obtained from witnesses, detectives are classifying the investigation as a homicide.
