An Osceola County Sheriff deputy was terminated Thursday after an investigation determined he fired his agency-issued weapon publicly while intoxicated off duty.

Michael Carr was fired after a criminal investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office concluded he publicly discharged his agency-issued gun June 23 while drunk and off duty near the area of Running Horse Trail in St. Cloud.

Detectives forwarded criminal charges to the State Attorney's Office for review.

Carr, 26, has been employed as a Sheriff's deputy since March of 2011, spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain said.

Detectives conducted a criminal investigation which led to charges of discharging a firearm in public and discharging a firearm while intoxicated. Those charges were forwarded to the State Attorney's Office.

Additionally, an internal investigation concluded Carr violated three policies, including conformance to laws, conduct unbecoming and use of weapons, which led to his termination, Lizasuain said.

The incident is considered an active criminal investigation pending the State Attorney's Office review. Further details on the investigation are unavailable until after the State Attorney's Office reviews the case, Lizasuain said.
