The Osceola News-Gazette took home 12 awards at the Florida Press Association 2011 Better Weekly Newspaper Contest on July 7, including two first-place honors.
The winners were:
Staff writer Ken Jackson: first-place for sports spot news story.
Chief photographer Andrew Sullivan: first place for feature photo; second place for spot news photo and for sports picture; and third-place finishes for photo series in one issue, online slideshow and portfolio photography.
Staff writer Fallan Patterson: second place for health, medical and science reporting and third place for breaking news story.
News-Gazette Staff:  third place for general excellence and third-place for editorial page.
Cartoonist Alex Moore: second-place for original local editorial cartoon.
The contest was held in Destin.
