Kissimmee police officers Wednesday responded to a suspicious incident that evolved into a minor stand-off.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. officers responded to 1026 S. Hoagland Blvd. in Kissimmee near the Kissimmee Gateway Airport in reference to a suspicious odor.

Officers found evidence at the scene to indicate there was a possible methamphetamine lab at the residence, a series of townhomes.

Witnesses called police about a suspicious odor and saw George Calvin King, 31, discarding suspicious items, Osceola County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain said.

An officer evacuated the surrounding units and attempted to make contact with those inside the residence. The residents refused to talk with the officers, Kissimmee Police Department spokeswoman Stacie Miller said.

Kissimmee’s Crisis Negotiation and SWAT teams were called to the residence to convince the occupants to come outside.

After approximately two hours, King and male child exited the residence on their own accord. An hour later, Jennifer Nicole Hopper, 26, exited the residence without incident.

Initially it was believed that other children were still inside, but once entry was made it was determined no one else was inside the residence, Lizasuain said.

After obtaining a search warrant, the SWAT team entered the residence to ensure no one else was inside.

The scene was turned over to the Osceola County Investigative Bureau to determine if a methamphetamine lab is inside of the residence, Miller said.

The child was decontaminated at the scene and taken to an area hospital to be evaluated. Both King and Hopper were decontaminated at the scene and are being questioned by officers. They were charged with resisting officers without violence.

OCIB agents Wednesday afternoon entered the residence and located materials consistent with manufacturing methamphetamine. While no actual methamphetamine was located, the investigation is on-going with drug charges pending, Lizasuain said.

The Osceola County Investigative Bureau is a multi-agency task force working in conjunction with the State Attorney's Office and comprised of Osceola County Sheriff's deputies, St. Cloud Police Department officers, Kissimmee Police Department officers and Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents who investigate vice, narcotics and organized crime.
