A young girl was killed Friday on Florida's Turnpike in Osceola County near Mile Marker 216 after the SUV she was riding in with seven other people blew a tire and flipped several times, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Paola Michelle Ramirez, 11, of Jonesboro, Ga., died after she was thrown from the 2000 Ford Excursion about 23 miles north of the exit for Yeehaw Junction. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the crash report.

The southbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed for more than an hour after the SUV's left rear tire suffered a blowout about 8:50 a.m. The driver, Norma Orozco-Villa, 34, of Jonesboro, Ga., told Troopers she was driving southbound when the tire blowout caused her to lose control of the vehicle and travel onto the grassy shoulder, where the SUV flipped several times, the report stated.

The SUV came to rest upright on the shoulder. Orozco-Villa suffered minor injuries and was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, along with the other six passengers, for treatment.

The investigation is on-going with charges pending.
