The St. Cloud police and fire departments will hold a free crime prevention and safety fair Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. in conjunction with the 29th annual National Night Out in front of City Hall at 10th Street and New York Avenue.

One of the events’ goals is to promote the national “Lock-It-Up” campaign, which urges homeowners to lock all doors, windows and other entryways into their homes and vehicles when not at home or going to bed in order to avoid being easy targets, which most burglars look for. Statistics from the Central Berks (Pa.) police force show that in 90 percent of thefts from motor vehicles, thieves opened an unlocked door.

Tuesday’s celebration will include promoting police-community partnerships, crime prevention, public safety and neighborhood safety. The event will feature giveaways from the St. Cloud police and fire departments, including child DNA and digital fingerprint kits, and an opportunity to meet department command staff, firefighters and patrol Officers. The event will also include safety exhibits, snacks and live music.

Neighborhood Watch groups through the city of St. Cloud are encouraged to host their own event within their communities, with residents turning on their porch lights to “shine a light on crime.”

For information contact the St. Cloud Police Department at 407-891-6700.
