Friday ends the week-long qualifying period for St. Cloud residents interested in running for a position on the City Council.

Osceola County Supervisor of Elections staff will spend the week reviewing each candidate’s election application, which is required to include a minimum of 25 petitions and confirmation that the applicant paid the election assessment fee of $144 for the mayor position and $120 for the other seats on the dais.

Each candidate must also be a registered voter in Osceola County.

Mayor Rebecca Borders is seeking her second term against former city councilman Jarom Fertic, as of Friday.

Seat 2 is up for grabs between recently retired St. Cloud police officer Ron Caswell and Soldier City Saloon owner Jeff Rinehart, according to the SOE’s website Tuesday. Current Seat 2 Councilman Tom Griffin dropped out of the race due to professional commitments.

Seat 3 Councilman Russell Holmes, who works for the Osceola County School District, is also running for his second term on the dais against Cecil “Pete” Jones, as of Tuesday.

The election is set for Nov. 6.
