CFE Federal Credit Union has opened its newest student-operated branch at Poinciana High School, presenting students with "real-life" experience in the financial industry.
The Poinciana Branch is CFE’s first high school branch in Osceola County, and is completely operated by students.
“Opening this branch is a further investment of CFE’s ongoing commitment to ensure quality education and financial literacy in the schools,” Joseph A. Melbourne Jr., president and CEO of CFE, said.
CFE has provided a complete hands-on training program as well as ongoing support at the branch. Students at the Poinciana Branch are responsible for providing onsite financial services to more than 1,400 students, faculty and staff members at the high school. Teachers and officials from CFE oversee their work as tellers and customer-service agents, helping classmates and faculty open accounts, cash checks and make deposits and withdrawals. Checking and savings accounts, plus share certificates and other services are offered at the Poinciana Branch. Student tellers have limited access to account information to protect the privacy of faculty members.
“The students, teachers, and administration at Poinciana High truly appreciate the help and investment
of CFE,” Superintendent Michael A. Grego said during the grand opening ceremony in January. “This branch supplements the learning taking place inside the classrooms by equipping students with the marketable skills needed to compete in the growing global economy while establishing a solid foundation for continued academic learning and financial literacy.”
