On Saturday, April 10, Kissimmee Boy Scout Troop 826 of Trinity Lutheran Church honored for Gateway High School student Christian Stanley for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
Stanley has been a member of the troop since 2003.  With the troop, he has attended many campouts, most notably at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M., Northern Tier in Ely, Minn., White-Water rafting in West Virginia and hiking along the Appalachian Trail in Georgia.  Along the Eagle Trail, he has served his troop as chaplain’s aide, librarian, representative to the Order of the Arrow, patrol leader, senior patrol leader and served Pack 295, Kissimmee, as den chief.  He has been involved in many service projects with the troop.  He has aided annually in Scouting for Food, assisted other Scouts on their trail to Eagle by participating in their Eagle projects and hurricane clean-up at La-No-Che Scout Reservation in 2004.  His final service project was his very own Eagle Scout project.
For his Eagle Scout project, Stanley chose to restore Makinson Island, located in the center of Lake Tohopekaliga in Kissimmee. Because of the Eagle nesting, the city Parks and Recreation Department was not able to bring heavy equipment onto the island.  Therefore, the Hogs of Troop 826 were called in to repair the trails that were being disturbed by the wild hogs on the island.  They also were to complete some needed repairs caused by hurricanes Charley, Frances, and Jeanne.  With the help of Evers Wood Products supplying lumber, Stanley led his team of scouts and friends to clear and blaze the trails, repair the fire ring, and build benches. Other donations from Chic-Fil-A and Hallmark Pools were also appreciated.
Stanley acknowledges that he has only attained his rank of Eagle with the help of his family, the Scoutmasters, his friends, and his troop. The rank of Eagle is the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts. Only one in every 50 Boy Scouts will ever attain this rank.
Stanley is now attending the University of South Florida.
