Just along for the Clyde

To the editor:

To those who travel Clyde Avenue and use the cross streets in connection to Clyde, please read and hopefully understand.

All side streets have a stop sign, this applies to you, Mr. Driver, who just can’t seem to manage a complete stop; to you, Mr. Driver, who somehow believes this gives you the right to stop half-way out into Clyde and suggest I stop for you; to you, Mr. Driver, who floors it when you see me coming, hoping I will slow down for you; to you, Mr. I-work-for-the-city-and-the-rules-don't-apply-to-me.

I live in this area and use Clyde Street several times daily. I have the right as a driver to not slow down or swerve or slam on my brakes, but each and every day I have to deal with one, if not more, of you who can’t seem to figure out what “stop” means.

To those of you who scream and yell when I blow my horn, I am not taking this as an apology for your rudeness and ignorance of the law. I have already had one accident on this road due to someone completely ignoring the stop sign. I don't understand what the problem is — if this is your shortcut and you don't want to obey the signs then use a different road.

To those of you who work at the courthouse and use Bryan Street as a quick get-away, use Emmett — no stop signs there. A railroad track does not mean I will stop, it may not even mean I will slow down. As to the city workers, you all have tag numbers and I would hope a call to the city reporting you would ruin your day.

There are children on this street and people who walk every day. Hit one of them and I would think that the three seconds you could have stopped at that sign would have all been worth it.

And to those of you who pass on Clyde — use John Young if you're in such a wild hurry. We tried to block you from this area but the city had a fit when you all complained it was taking you too long to get to work. I suppose leaving earlier was not an option. We were also promised speed bumps, yet those never appeared. No surprise there.

As far as the Kissimmee Police Department goes, they could have their fortune on Clyde Street in one day and possibly save someone from getting killed. A few of you paying tickets for running a stop sign just might slow you down. I really don't believe the city should have to pay for flashing lights on these sign streets to get your attention, but if it comes to that so be it — whatever it takes to stop this complete and total disregard for my safety and those who travel this road.

I’m looking forward to better drivers.

Supports Van Meter

To the editor:

Our family and all of our friends have chosen me to write something about Jeanne Van Meter's entering the race for City Commission seat 2.

Quite simply, we are thrilled. Saying that Jeanne Van Meter has personal integrity means that she weighs every decision that she has to make, involving our city and its people, as though she was making a decision involving her own family. She has such an inspiring passion for our city of Kissimmee, it’s no wonder she is loved and respected by so many people.

Having arrived here 38 years ago, Jeanne has been a vital part of our changing community. She has fought to protect our lakefront, supported the small businesses that make our city so special and proved herself over and over as a "for-the-people" woman in her four years as a city commissioner. Always fair-minded and non-biased, her life has been an inspiration to us all. She has positive energy that knows no limits.

We all pray for her election to seat 2.
