The Osceola County Historical Society will present its third annual holiday event, “A Cracker Christmas,” at The Pioneer Village Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
According to a society press release,  the village will be adorned with the subtle cracker ornamentations of past Christmas days in Florida. And exclusively on Saturday evening, the buildings will be illuminated by the warm glow of candlelight and oil lamps.
On both days, there will be storytelling, live music, demonstrations and family arts and crafts workshops will be held wherein families can make holiday decorations. And there’ll even be visits by Santa Claus.
Event highlights include: spinning demonstrations (ongoing Saturday and Sunday); pioneer cooking demonstrations (Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.); old-fashioned potato sack races (Sunday at 3 p.m.); free photos with Santa (on a first-come, first-served basis, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday); pony rides for children (a separate fee, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), and horse-drawn carriage rides (separate fee per person, Saturday, 4 to 7:30 p.m.). The pony and carriage rides are being offered by the Central Florida Carriage Company, which works with rescued horses.
Musical highlights: the Karen & Donna Duo (Saturday and Sunday, between 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.); The Chozen Hoboz (Saturday, between 12:45 and 3 p.m.); the Osceola Porch Pickers (Saturday, between 3 and 6:30 p.m., and Sunday between 1 and 3:30 p.m.). Each musical group will be performing a mix of traditional holiday music and classic folk tunes. On Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., a caroling sing-in will be held around the campfire of the village’s old Cow Camp, in which everyone is invited to participate.
For those seeking unique things for holiday gift-giving, the Village General Store will have a variety of Florida books and novelties available, and for the first time there will be a few vendors selling unusual handmade jewelry and other great gift items.
Admission to A Cracker Christmas is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 15. Light refreshments are included with admission. The village is at 750 N. Bass Road in Kissimmee. For more information, call OCHS at 407-396-8644, or visit the OCHS website at www.
