Addressing racism

To the editor:

In the April 23 issue of the Osceola News-Gazette, (County Commissioner) John Quiñones speaks of racism and hatred but he doesn’t address the racism and discrimination that comes from the Hispanic community.

Quiñones speaks of diversity but only as it applies to the white community. Where is the diversity in the Hispanic community? There is no diversity in the Hispanic community, hence the word, Hispanic community. The history and heritage of Puerto Ricans comes from Puerto Rico, not Osceola County. I am a United States American and Osceola County is our history and heritage, not Puerto Rico.

The U.S. Army 65th Infantry should have a park named in their honor – in Puerto Rico, which is their history and heritage. The park here in Osceola County should be named after the founding men and women settlers of Osceola County.

God Bless America! As a former Marine, I can attest to the fact that the Puerto Ricans in my company would not stand and salute the American flag.
