Judges, publishers, elected officials, realtors, executives, educators, business owners, superintendents and more were all in attendance at a luncheon on Thursday hosted by Kena Blain, publisher of Osceola Woman Newspaper.  Yes, here in Osceola County we have a powerful, energetic and professional group of talented women that are making a difference in our community. It was impressive to see a full house at Thursday’s event. Future events are planned for upcoming months; we encourage your attendance (both women and men).

Imagine that you are lying on a stretcher, in horrible pain, with only minutes to live. Your ambulance driver is almost frantic to get you to the hospital because he knows that your life is ebbing away, and the only way to save you is to take you to the emergency room where the doctors and nurses are waiting to help you. But, he can’t make much progress because the vehicles around him are not yielding to the ambulance’s flashing lights. Other drivers barely budge as the emergency vehicle’s siren blares futilely; your driver feverishly honks the horn, but his path remains blocked.

The calendar seems to move faster and faster.  With the spring season now upon us in Osceola County, our local chambers of commerce are moving forward, both with new leadership.  While some may dwell on the negative economic conditions, we believe strongly our local chambers play a key role in the betterment of our community. Today, forward thinking new ideas and outside the box initiatives drive these strong groups.  It’s important to understand the issues of our business community and work hard to lead efforts to aggressively pursue every opportunity.

The ability for attorneys and judges to move cases through our system of justice is no easy task.  While news from the courthouse has sometimes been controversial and negative over the past 12 months, from dress code concerns to ethics issues and more, it is time we give recognition to our local judges and attorneys.

To the Editor:

Your Saturday March 16 editorial regarding Celebration High School athletics makes for an interesting read. On many levels it is simply off target.
