At an announcement ceremony held at Westgate Resort Tuesday, Experience Kissimmee revealed that Brooke Shuff and her Grand Rapids, Mich. family were the winners of the Decade of Memories contest, which grants them 10 annual vacations for up to five people.

Kissimmee should be getting to know Brooke Shuff fairly well over the next 10 years or so.

And vice versa.

Experience Kissimmee, the county’s tourism marketing organization, named Shuff the winner of its nearly six-month long “Decade of Kissimmee Memories” grand prize winner Tuesday at an event it held at the Westgate Vacation Villas Town Hall.

School Board chairman draws early opponents

With the 2014 Osceola County School Board election still over a year away, two challengers are already gearing up to make a run at Chairman Jay Wheeler’s district 1 seat.

Leah Carius, a longtime Celebration resident and Celebration K-8 School Advisory Council member, and businessman Mark Oxner have qualified to oppose current Wheeler in his bid to win a fourth term.

Wheeler also has qualified to run again.

On Wednesday afternoon, Larry Belisle was working in a St. Cloud yard, building a access ramp to the front door for a family with three members requiring assistance just to get in and out of the house.
It was noontime, it was hot … and Belisle was wearing a black shirt.
And if he had his way, he’d be at it more often.

Chick-fil-A made its mark on St. Cloud with the grand opening of the city’s first store on Thursday.

Both Kissimmee and St. Cloud have been locations that the company has wanted to build on for at least three years. It sees Central Florida as an area not properly served for the company’s market.
