Readers are needed for the African American Read-In on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 1-4 pm at the Kissimmee Civic Center. This will be an open-mic style event celebrating African American authors that made a significant impact in poetry, art and literature. To volunteer to read register at Kissimmee. gov/readin. Or … just come and listen.

The City of Kissimmee is looking for seasonal workers at both its summer camps and aquatic center. Open positions include lifeguards, swim instructors and facility attendants at the Aquatic Center, and Camp Director, Assistant Director, camp counselors and Bus Drivers at the summer camp. Apply at Kissimmee.gov/careers. A new way to make friends, Speed Friending, is being held at the Hart Library at 6 p.m. tonight (Thursday Feb. 16). The event is designed to be a fun and quick opportunity to make lightning-fast platonic connections with others who share your hobbies and interests. Registration is required at Osceolalibrary.org/events.

Also at Hart Library: Learn about native plants and meet fellow native plant fans at The Florida Native Plant Society Pine Lily Chapter meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Be unafraid to create at Bad Art Night on Thursday, Feb. 23. Participants can create “something truly dreadful” with the supplies provided, and the worst art will win a prize.

Say goodbye to the structure of a traditional book club with the No Pressure Book Club at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 22. Read any book based on the month’s theme to read to share. February’s theme is “Love Knows No Bounds” – pick a love story book that is not a traditional romance genre. There’s no assigned reading, no formal questions, and no pressure.

Other events at the Hart Library include exploring early and current comic book history with Celebrating Black Superheroes at noon on Saturday, Feb. 18, and Spanish for Beginners at 6pm on Thursdays. The Library is also featuring an exhibit of the work of artist Grey Sturgill, going on now through March 31.
