The Osceola County Master Gardeners’ Plant Market will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Osceola Heritage Park, 1911 Kissimmee Valley Lane, featuring annuals, perennials, herbs, landscape plants, shrubs and trees. Master Gardeners will be available for advice as well. Admission is free.

 

The African American Read-In will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 1-4 p.m. at the Kissimmee Civic Center. This will be an open-mic style event celebrating African-American authors that made a significant impact in poetry, art and literature. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The March for Meals St. Patrick’s 5K Run/Walk is a fun run event at Lakefront Park on March 11 to raise money for the Meals on Wheels program in Osceola County through the Osceola Council on Aging. Participants are being asked to wear some “lucky” green for the event. Along with individuals, teams can participate in the “Team Challenge” category and win the “Most Spirited Team” and/or “Largest Team” award. Raceday registration starts at 6:45 a.m. for the 8 a.m. race at 201 Lakeview Drive, or find out more information at osceolagenerations.com.

 

The City of Kissimmee is still looking for seasonal workers at both its summer camps and aquatic center. Open positions include lifeguards, swim Instructors and Facility attendants at the Aquatic Center, and Camp Director, Assistant Director, Camp Counselors and bus drivers at the Summer Camp. The Hart Library will launch a five-week series on Influential Women of American Literature on Thursday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. This initial discussion will focus on Octavia Butler. Choose any work by her to share in a roundtable discussion.

 

Other events at the Hart Library include the 6th Annual LitMag Reception On Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m., featuring local young authors and illustrators, the kids and teen winners of the Literary Magazine contest will have their original short pieces read aloud and their art work highlighted. The Library is also featuring an exhibit of the work of artist Grey Sturgill, going on through March 31.
