Despite an unexpected visit by Hurricane Nicole earlier this week, several events held Saturday capped off a week of celebrating veterans in St. Cloud.

Bright and early Saturday morning, a group of 20 veterans and family members and two dogs participated in a 5K “Ruck” March from City Hall to the St. Cloud Marina and back. The event was hosted by the St. Cloud Police Department, along with sponsorships by several local businesses and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3227.

After the march participants enjoyed a free breakfast at the VFW.

Later in the morning, the 2nd Annual Veterans Resource Fair was held at St. Cloud’s Veterans Park. Over a dozen organizations, including Disney, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Century 21, and city and county departments offered information on veterans services, accessing benefits, and employment opportunities. The fair was organized and presented by The Mercy Foundation, which held a homeless veteranfocused event earlier this year in Kissimmee.

Also starting at 10 a.m. Saturday was the traditional Veterans Day Parade through downtown St. Cloud. Earlier on Nov. 4, a Veteran Salute dinner was held by St. Cloud Main Street. An appreciation breakfast for City of St. Cloud military veteran employees was moved from last week to today (Nov. 17) due to the hurricane.
