City of Kissimmee Employee of the year Cathy Finneran
Cathy Finneran, who serves as an Administrative Assistant in the City’s Development Services Department, was named Kissimmee Employee of the Month for September 2022, and is now being honored as Employee of the Year for 2022.
“Cathy has dedicated her entire career to serving the citizens of our community. She has been the glue that has held the development services department together over the tenure of several directors of the department and is a valuable member of the City’s team,” said Mike Steigerwald, Kissimmee City Manager.
Employees are nominated by and chosen solely by their fellow employees, not supervisors or managers.
“I am so honored and humbled, especially knowing this came from my coworkers and fellow employees. I served on the selection committee a few years ago, and I know how tough the competition is, with so many highly dedicated people being nominated,” said Finneran.
Finneran has worked for the city for over 26 years in the very busy Development Service Department, which coordinates building permits, zoning changes, and future planning.
Recently, the department installed the new Energov operating program, and Finneran was lauded for being instrumental in its implementation. Use of Energov is required to apply for permits, submit documents and plans, pay, search, and review all permits, licenses, and plans. She helped with the tedious data conversion and did additional research to assist in going live with the system. Finneran was also noted for being pivotal in the budget process for the large department, with its many functional areas.
An excerpt from her September nomination package reads: “Cathy is known for her friendly manner, and her willingness to assist. When helping fellow employees, she typically goes above and beyond what is asked, while keeping the City’s best interest in mind. She is also good with followup to be sure expectations were met.”
In addition to her many tasks, Finneran was called out for her continuous help with all the Department camaraderie events such as birthdays and potlucks.
