Happy New Year Poinciana! Here’s to a bright and happy 2024—a New Year with New Goals and New Possibilities.

Commissioner Brandon Arrington’s 3 Kings Day Toy Giveaway will be on Saturday, Jan. 6 from 3-5 p.m. at Valencia College’s Poinciana campus. This festive celebration includes music, cookies, giveaways, pony rides and free toys for kids (while supplies last). Children must be present to receive a gift at this outdoor event.

 

Heart healthy—the Poinciana Library (101 Doverplum Ave.) is the latest public library to implement the American Heart Association’s Libraries with Heart Initiative. One blood pressure kit may be check out with a library card for 14 days. Included in each kit is a validated monitor and cuff, instructions on how to take your blood pressure at home, what those numbers mean, a log for recording numbers, a list of local healthcare providers ready to answer questions and wipes to sanitize the equipment.

 

Families looking to apply for the 2024 T-Mobile Little League Grant may do so starting Thursday, Jan. 11. For more information and to apply, go to https://www.littleleague.org/call-upgrant- program.

 

Registration is now open for Bomba Dance classes in Poinciana. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. beginning Feb. 21 at the Mary Jane Arrington Gym and Aquatic Center (625 Country Club Dr.)

Bomba is both a traditional dance and musical style of Puerto Rico with African roots but has evolved into an expression of Puerto Rican culture. For more information and to register, go to www.puertoricoesbomba.com/services.
