Disney Wilderness Preserve (2700 Scrub Jay Trail in Poinciana) opens early several times a year allowing visitors to hike or observe wild life that are more visible in the early morning hours. The next Early Birder Day will be on Saturday, June 17 at 7 a.m. This is not a guided tour, so registration is not required.

The Disney Wilderness Preserve is home to more than 1,000 species of plants and animals and is an essential part of the Everglades ecosystem. The preserve contains 3,500 acres of restored wetlands that act as nature’s “sponge,” gathering rain, filtering out nutrients and replenishing ground water. Though the Preserve is not affiliated with Walt Disney’s parks and resorts, the Walt Disney Company provided funds for restoration and wild life monitoring.

Disney Wilderness Preserve is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 407-935-0002.
