A Kissimmee man and his passenger were killed early Friday morning on State Road 417 when Florida Highway Patrol troopers say their Toyota Corolla was struck by a dump truck after hitting another car.

According to a crash report, the Toyota, driven by a 37-year-old Kissimmee man, was headed southbound on 417 just after 4:30 a.m. Friday and was in the turn lane for International Drive near Mile Marker 6. The driver failed to slow for a Ford Maverick in the same lane, swerved left to attempt to avoid a collision, but the right side of the Corolla struck the back of the Maverick, driven by a 30-year-old Orlando man. The impact left the Toyota disabled in the center travel lane.

Moments later, a dump truck driven by a 21-year-old Kissimmee man, who advised he could not stop in time for avoid colliding with the Corolla, struck it in the rear, sending it into the outside shoulder and into a guardrail.

The Corolla's driver and passenger, a 24-year-old Haines City man, were transported to Celebration ER, where they were pronounced dead, FHP said. The drivers of the other vehicles were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation, FHP says.
