Education Foundation presents $1.1M in scholarships

Students wearing formal dress and broad smiles made their way to Osceola Heritage Park Wednesday for the annual Education Foundation Scholarship Awards Ceremony. The excitement was palpable as the room filled with 337 proud recipients and their families.

Celebration’s Aiden Dai named Osceola’s lone National Merit Scholar

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced that Aiden Dai of Celebration High School is among the first group of winners in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Dai, a senior who lists medicine as a probable career field, was one of five CHS students named to the semifinalists list and three finalists, but was the only national winner in Osceola County.

Winners announced in Rotary Virtual Art Contest

The Rotary Club of Kissimmee West has announced the winners of its Virtual Art Contest with the School District of Osceola County. Elementary, middle and high school students contributed 540 entries for the Virtual Art Contest. From there, the public was asked to go online and vote for their favorite pieces, including the People’s Choice Award, and over 925 votes were cast, with each vote a $5 donation to the Osceola Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program and food pantry. Through votes and sponsorships, over $10,500 was raised in the annual event.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Virginia State Police Northern Virginia/DC Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force are seeking the public’s help for information about Jason Robert Fragale, 38, of Kissimmee, and Leesburg, Va. Fragale was arrested on Jan. 20 at the Orlando International Airport and extradited to Virginia on Feb. 7, according to Virginia State Police.
